Ad Highlighting Zuckerberg’s Broken Promises Will Run Nationally During Prime Time Debate Coverage

Today, Accountable Tech is launching a new $250,000 ad buy calling out Facebook for facilitating the spread of misinformation and hate with real-world consequences.

The ads will air across CNN, MSNBC and Fox News through Friday, including during coverage of the final presidential debate. The spot juxtaposes footage of Mark Zuckerberg expressing his desire to make his kids proud against news reports highlighting Facebook’s role as an organizing platform for extremists in Kenosha and Michigan.

Watch the ad: “Proud Of

“Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg continue to treat dangerous policy and design flaws in their platform as PR problems, and Americans are paying the price,” said Accountable Tech Executive Director Nicole Gill. “Instead of building a platform his ‘family can be proud of,’ Mark Zuckerberg has built one that repeatedly rewards outrageous content and filters like-minded individuals into small echo chambers.  If Mark continues to prioritize growth above all else – no matter the harm it does to our society and democracy – we must hold him accountable.”

This ad buy builds upon Accountable Tech’s ongoing work advocating for social media platforms to serve the public good and protect democracy. This September, Accountable Tech launched a comprehensive Election Integrity Roadmap for social media platforms to guard against voter suppression and intimidation, and more recently, led a diverse coalition of organizations calling on Facebook to stop group recommendations.
