When we launched Accountable Tech in May 2020, our country was entering a pandemic and presidential election cycle that would test our information ecosystem in ways we had never seen before in history. We have witnessed and experienced how disinformation and violent extremism online can rip at the very fabric of our society and endanger our democracy. We have seen it in the proliferation of vaccine misinformation and rampant election disinformation that spurred the January 2021 Capitol insurrection.
