Accountable Tech spearheaded the campaign for the company to delete Location History to protect abortion seekers from prosecution in the post-Roe era

Accountable Tech Co-Founder and Executive Director Nicole Gill released the following statement on Google’s latest changes to Location History settings on Google Maps:

“In July 2022, Google promised to delete sensitive location data to protect people seeking abortion care in a post-Roe America, but in the past year and a half has fallen short. We are encouraged by their latest announcement to better protect the privacy of the millions of people who use their products everyday. Strong encryption is critical for digital privacy and security, and it’s a step in the right direction for Google to secure user location data. This is one of the many ways Big Tech can and must prioritize user safety and privacy, but the work doesn’t stop here. We will continue to make sure these companies are living up to their own commitments and creating a safer digital world for us all.”
