Accountable Tech Statement on President Trump’s Repeal of White House Order on AI

Accountable Tech Co-Founder and Executive Director Nicole Gill issued the following statement on President Trump’s repeal of the White House Order on AI:

“President Biden’s Executive Order on AI laid the groundwork for basic accountability for this rapidly-evolving technology – ensuring that government agencies could harness AI’s potential without harming the millions of Americans they are entrusted to serve. Among other common sense safeguards, this order protected Americans against AI fraud; protected families from AI discrimination in housing and the criminal justice system; and protected patients from unsafe AI tools in healthcare settings.

With this order gone, these protections disappear. Just as disturbing, Trump’s repeal will roll back safety and reporting standards for dual-use and foundation models, meaning developers will no longer be required to test or report the cyber and physical security threats their models pose.

We condemn President Trump’s decision and urge Congress to act swiftly to pass comprehensive legislation to address the risks posed by dual-use and rights-impacting AI.”
